After a lifetime of dieting and losing 20 pounds only to gain back 30, over and over my body had reached it's breaking point. I had basically given up , and I could not do it on my own any more. My knees and back would not allow me to exercise and I was now having trouble breathing. As of today I have lost 162 pounds and honestly have never felt better. I have went from not being able to walk more than a mile or so a year ago to now running an average of more than 30 miles a week. My only regret was not having my RNY a lot sooner. Prior to bariatric surgery, I had many health problems. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high triglycerides just to name a few. I took over 100 units of two kinds of insulin 5 times a day plus oral diabetes medication, two blood pressure pills, and several pills to control my lipids. My medical problems still out of control, I was given less than 10 years to live. I had been to Mayo clinic and U of M, both outstanding hospitals, but only Premier Metabolic and Bariatric Associates helped me. I had my surgery on 12/1/08 and by 1/14/09, my sugar and lipid levels were normal! No more shots or medications! This was truly a life changing experience. Believe me when I tell you this can change your life too. I started out at 295# and I am now 170#. I have made it to my goal and I tell as many people as I can! It might just save your life too! I weighed in at 423 pounds. I had tried every diet and diet pill known to mankind. My success was always limited and short lived. I was to the point that I thought I was never going to be able to fit in a restaurant booth, that I would be buying my clothes from magazines and Big and Tall stores forever, and that others would always have to make accommodations when planning family outings. Well! Let me tell you all a true story and (to me) and incredible one! I started my journey by going to an information seminar. I decided to try what I had been researching on the internet for over a year. My insurance company would not pay for my procedure, so I decided I was more important than money and I paid for the surgery myself by refinancing my home. Lets just say the surgery has paid for itself in many other ways…I have been able to ride amusement park rides! I have been able to buy clothes off the rack! I can go out to eat and sit in any booth and I no longer feel like the odd person out when going to family outings. I am indeed a new person! Dr. Teel and his staff have been the best people in the world! They have been nothing less than professional and have never made me feel like I was less important or special than I now feel about myself. It was because of my conviction and albeit desperation that I am where I am now. I wouldn’t change it for the world! Thank you PMBA. Kimberly S Date of Operation: December 5, 2007
I was sick and tired of living my life at 245 lbs. I had temporary success with other weight-loss methods, but none of them worked long-term. After years of yo-yo dieting, gaining back even more weight every time I quit, I just gave up. There?s a widespread stigma that comes with being overweight in our society. It?s sad but real. My self-esteem and self-image wasn?t the only part of me suffering, but so was my health. I w as developing high blood pressure, diabetes; bad cholesterol, arthritis, and depression just to name a few. I experienced the hurt from being overweight every day. I thought I was out of weight loss options. The LAP-BAND? System appealed to me because it was the least invasive weight loss surgery. Best of all, I learned that it was a tool that would teach me to eat much better and take better care of myself. I feel so great about my decision, I needed to lose the weight slowly and make positive lifestyle changes. I remember the day of my surgery. I prayed for God?s grace and power, and then I started to visualize a new thinner, healthier image of me! Since my surgery I started working out, first walking, and now I run four to six miles daily. I work on the 10 floor of my building and I walk up the steps two to three times a day. I never would have imagined myself doing that at 5?3? weighting 245 lbs. I?ve gone from a size 22 dress down to a size 8. I?m elated about the results, I look and feel like a new woman and I?m in control. I?m healthy, happy and loving my life. My social life and occupational life have improved and I?m no longer constrained every day by my weight. Now, I feel empowered and blessed by the Father, because I am the woman I was always meant to be. I?m forever grateful! TONYA D Date of Operation: December 30, 2009
I have been battling obesity for quite some time throughout my life. It finally took its toll on me; I began to suffer the physical affects of obesity. I became hypertensive, borderline diabetic, chronic back pain, depression, high cholesterol, and the list goes on. I became dependent on medications to control every aspect of my health. It was an unhealthy vicious cycle. Then one day I reached 325 lbs and that was it! On December 30, 2008 my life changed. Dr. Teel II was a God send. Thirteen months later and over 145 lbs lighter I am medication free, pain free and full of joy & energy. Choosing to have the Rou-N-Y was like choosing to live again. Just like most people with weight problems, I tried many different diets over the years. Most of them worked for a time, but then the weight came back on plus more. Finally, when my health began to suffer because of my weight, I began to look at having surgery. After carefully looking at all my options, I, along with the help of Dr. Maguire, chose to have the Roux En Y procedure. The process leading to the actual surgery date took about 5 months to complete. It was sooooooo worth the wait. When I was obese, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol just to name a few, and was on medication to support all of those diseases. It is a shame that being overweight can cause all of those life threatening diseases. As a result of my surgery and weight loss, I now am off all of those medications and all of those health problems are gone! I had a few complications while in the hospital, bumps in the road if you will, but once I was discharged home, it has been smooth sailing. With the support of my family, friends, and Dr. Maguire, I am forever grateful to be a sucess story. I am so happy with my decision to have the surgery and would do it again in a heartbeat! I am very thankful to Dr. Maguire and his staff. The support you feel from the office is amazing, and knowing that you can talk to someone 24/7 if you have concerns is comforting. The support group has been a very important part of my success and I still, after 18 months, look forward to the 2nd Tuesday of the month to see all the life long friends I've made thanks to the sugery. I shared the same dieting disappointments with the most of you. Until I made the careful decision to have weight loss surgery performed by Dr John Maguire, I would not have been sent on this wonderful journey of seeing my body transform into someone I really like to see in the mirror. It's funny how years have gone by before now and mirrors were my enemy, but no longer........I really love who I see now. I feel so healthy and have so much energy. Years ago, I never imagined myself working out at the gym, let alone wearing a two piece bathing suit! And yes , I do have a slight scar from my surgery, but to me it's a beautiful scar and I am proud to share my testimony when people ask about it:-) I am living life and loving it!! This past year has been amazing! I've gone from a size 18 to a size 8. I can bend over to tie my shoes and take a walk with my daughters without gasping for breath. My heart no longer beats out of my chest because I over exert myself walking up a flight of stairs. When my cardiologist first recommended the adjustable gastric band, I wasn't sure I would qualify. Due to health problems, I did. Now I am healthier and enjoying life for the first time in years. I no longer feel like the "fat mom" and I am not embarrassed to be seen at the pool with my daughters. If I continue doing well, my cardiologist will reduce or discontinue my blood pressure and heart medications. This procedure is one of the best things I have ever done. It has definitely improved my life. Dr.Teel and the staff at PMBA are wonderful! Linda E. Date of Operation: June 30, 2007
I had Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass 7/30/07 and my life was forever changed. I had been heavy most of my adult life. From the time I married in 1975, until I had surgery, I had continually gained weight. By the time I had surgery, I weighed almost 300 pounds. I had diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I had quit doing things I enjoyed because of low self esteem and lack of energy and mobility that they required. I had talked to a friend about her husband's surgery and she gave me Dr. Maguire's name. I decided to go forward after my husband and I attended an information session. I lost 143 pounds! Even now it seems hard to believe. My health has improved 100% and I no longer take any medication. My diabetes is GONE! I actually looke forward to walking and riding a bicycle and playing with my grandchildren. I thank Dr. Maguire and his staff for their professionalism and for never making me feel less of person because of the weight.
